November Update!

A quiet yet busy November!  Lockdown ensured very little physical make-up work for me however I have been busy behind the scenes at Nikimakeup HQ making sure my kit is sanitised and ready to go for a busy December!  I have also been getting to grips with a bit of web design updating my bridal website www.nikimakeup.co.uk and my beauty and branding website www.nikimakeup.com. This was a job in itself as 'technical' is not my strong point but it kept me busy and I am happy with the results... for now!

I have also planned a Black Friday offer if you book during the last weekend of November you can save 20% on a 1:1 makeup lesson with me.  The lesson can be taken anytime throughout 2020/2021but has to be booked during the event. Simply get in touch to book.
***RRP/ £120.00 now £96.00***

For those that are not aware I also have an Etsy shop with some of my art for sale! There is currently 20% off everything for Black Friday.  https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Nikicreates?ref=search_shop_redirect

Lastly Gift Vouchers are now available to buy in just a few simple clicks directly on my website www.nikimakeup.co.uk Treat someone you love this Christmas, available to purchase as late as Christmas Eve!

I have made my annual Christmas puddings and plan to make a Christmas cake in the next week too!  Lockdown has whizzed by this time around, time flies when you are having fun I guess I am good at keeping myself busy.  Still ploughing through my never ending to do list!

I have taken some time out to relax too, I have been binge watching Below Deck I love it! I have watched all 8 seasons in Lock down and now to start on Below Deck Mediterranean!

If you are reading this I hope you are coping well during the pandemic, things will be better for us all soon.

Stay safe and well!

Friday Fave: Pure Gold Collagen

For my Fortieth Birthday in September 2019 my Mum kindly gave me amongst many other beautiful gifts a box of ten 'Pure Gold Collagen' drinks saying 'you are not getting any younger!' She meant well!

Collagen is produced naturally in the body within bones, skin and muscles but at around age 25 production starts to decline and from then on continues to do so.  Levels in the body can be effected by smoking, sugar, UV rays and the menopause in women.  Skin ageing can be associated with decreased collagen levels as it will lead to wrinkles and sagging skin, therefore a collagen supplement will help to preserve the skins firmness and elasticity.

Pure Collagen Gold is a liquid Beauty Supplement containing Copper, Zinc, Biotin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin B6 as well as 5000mg of Hydrolysed Collagen (from fish) designed to promote younger looking skin and help support healthy hair and nails, support skin hydration and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  It is available to purchase in a box containing ten bottles, I buy them from Costco as I receive great trade value there.  Singular bottles are also available if you would like to try the taste prior to investing in a box.

Quite a few of my Clients have been taking a Collagen supplement and my mum herself has been taking it for a couple of years and swears by it to improve her skin, hair and even her joints.
I am now a convert and have been taking a Gold Collagen drink every day for the last few months (other similar brands are available).  I definitely see my skin is more hydrated and radiant and my makeup appearance is much better than before I started using it.  The disappearance of wrinkles will be next!!

I prefer Pure Collagen Gold to other options on the market as it is super easy to take, you just shake well and open a small glass bottle and take a few sips every day to promote younger looking skin and support healthy looking nails and hair.

Friday Fave!: MAC 'DOWN TO AN ART' Matte Lipstick

I am really into my coral peachy lip colours at the moment!

I love this Matte MAC lipstick in shade 'Down to an Art'.  It feels really comfortable to wear and stays on very well.  It is a nude peach shade that will suit a lot of skin tones from dark to pale so a great one for a Makeup Artist's kit.

You know it is a good shade when I brought it for my professional kit but it has ended up in my handbag! I just can't part from it... I will have to buy another one!

Note these photos make it appear darker than it actually is, it is a nude peach.

December Update!

December has whizzed by far too quickly much like the rest of this year as indeed life as we get older it appears!...

I have had a busy month of shoots unexpectedly many of which were rather last minute most involved travelling, I have been working in Oxford, Peterborough, Cambridge and London which has been really nice!

I have brought lots of new kit additions this month including my new hair kit bag which I love! It is so lightweight holding all my hair tools, products, grips, clips and pins available at   https://www.salon-services.com

I have met some gorgeous 2020 Brides for makeup trials ahead of their weddings.  Availability next year is now very limited, please do get in touch to check if your wedding date is free sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment and be aware that a booking deposit is essential to secure your wedding date.  There will also be a price increase in January 2020 book this year to secure 2019 rates!
See www.nikimakeup.co.uk for testimonials, pricing and full portfolio.

Both of these brides wanted beautifully natural glowy bridal makeup, what I do best! You but better!

For the Bride that lusts after "stand out eyes"!

Are you considering doing your own wedding makeup?

Maybe you are on a tight budget or getting married abroad.  To give you an expert helping hand here is my guide to achieving "stand out eyes" on your wedding day.

A special thank you to Laura Charles at https://reviva-weddings.com for inspiring this blog post!

1. Prime
I always use a primer on the eyelids to keep eyeshadow in place.  I prefer a primer in a flesh tone shade this will even the skin tone before you apply eyeshadow so you get much better colour payoff.

I like MAC Pro Longwear Paint pots, I mostly use 'Soft Ochre'.

2.  Shade
As a good guide apply three colours to help open and define the eyes.  First apply a light base colour all over the lid up to the brow.  Next add a mid-tone shade such as a light pink, peach, gold or light brown to the lower lid.  Finally a touch of a darker shadow such as a brown at the corner of the eyes and into the outer eye socket.  Blend all the colours together well! Choose timeless, classic shades such as browns, greys and plums but nothing too bright or shimmery.

I personally love MAC Eyeshadows.

Base shades I use include Blanc Type, Shroom, Brule and Ricepaper.

Great Mid-tones are Amber lights, Woodwinked, Grain, Girlie, Era & Wedge.

Darker shades to go for are Cork, Charcoal Brown, Embark, Swiss Chocolate, Mulch, Print, Greystone, Shale & Trax

Urban Decay Naked 2 & 3 Palettes are also very good options.

3. To define your eyes apply Eyeliner to the top lash line and slightly to the bottom lash line as well. Opt for long-wear, waterproof and smudge-proof in the title when choosing an eyeliner. Black, Brown, Grey or Plum are all good options depending on the choice of eye shadow you have used.
Liquid, gel and pencil are all great!  Simply choose whichever you find easiest to use and like the effect of.

4. To brighten the eyes I use a pencil in the lower waterline to emphasise the natural highlight.  I like Charlotte Tilbury 'Eye cheat' or Benefit 'Eye Bright'.
I use a shadow like 'Nylon' or 'Ricepaper' to add highlight under the arch of the brow and to the inner and outer corner of the eye.  You could use a liquid highlighter as an alternative like Charlotte Tilbury 'Flawless Filter' or Benefit 'Highbeam'.

5. Curl lashes using metal Eyelash curlers.  Pulse them for a better curl. My top tip is to go back at the end of makeup when the mascara is dry and curl again for big impact!

6. Apply two to three coats of BLACK mascara. Again, go for waterproof or smudge-proof. I would only use dark brown if you are really fair or a red head.

7. For additional eye definition in photographs and to add a little drama to the eyes apply false lashes.  Individual or cluster will look more natural and feel more comfortable. A full set is a better choice if you are used to wearing lashes or want super glam' eyes.  I always use Ardell lashes, the individuals are knot-free and look very natural and the Ardell  'Demi whispies' are my favourite full set of lashes. https://falseeyelashes.co.uk/collections/ardell

8. Brushes
These are the key to perfect eye makeup and will do a lot of the work for you!
You will need a base brush, blender, mid-tone brush, socket brush and angled brush.

Friday Fave! Omorovicza Gold Flash Firming Serum

If you are looking to indulge in luxurious skincare then this is surely it!

I have been using the Omorovicza Gold Flash Firming Serum for a couple of months now and I really love the feel of the product and the fact my skin instantly looks and feels healthy and radiant.  I must say I do think the clarity of my skin has improved overall as well.

It is not cheap at £140.00 available at Space NK https://www.spacenk.com/uk/en_GB/home-uk. This is certainly a luxury purchase but I have always chosen to spend more on skincare and I believe this is worth the price tag.

This serum will reduce the signs of ageing by hydrating, smoothing and firming the skin.  It also heals and repairs micro damaged and uneven skin. The complexion instantly appears brighter and healthier.

The serum contains Collodial gold which has inflammatory properties.

An oil free formula suitable for all skin types including sensitive.

*If you are not familiar with face serums this should be used in conjunction with your moisturiser. Apply this first as it will penetrate the skin deeper to deliver the active ingredients then apply your moisturiser on top.

The colour is a pretty and totally gorgeous coral pink.  If you like any of these MAC shades; Shanghai spice, Angel, Pure zen, Crème cup and Crème d'nude you will love this colour!

Friday Fave: Maybelline SuperStay 24 Lip Colour

I love these lip colours!!

My current favourite is 'Perpetual rose' a gorgeous pink that is just perfect for the summer.

I literally apply this at 9am and I am still wearing it at 9pm it stays on all day and the best bit is does not dry your lips and crack like so many other long wear lip colours. It is dual-ended so you apply the colour from the perfectly shaped applicator which has a pointed tip to follow your lip line, wait a minute or two then apply the balm on top.  This will make the colour feel comfortable to wear, add shine and condition the lips.  This can be applied throughout the day to top up.

Apparently it is the micro-flex technology that stops flaking, cracking and dying, well I must say it is fabulous!

There are so many great wearable colours for all skin tones.  I have lots of these in my pro' kit, they are great for bridal parties who need their lip colour to stay true as long as possible. 'Always Orchid' and 'In the Nude' are great natural colours for everyday wear.

To remove the colour use an oil based makeup remover!
